Frequently asked questions

Will fonts, colours and effects survive ASS to SRT conversion?

No. SRT cannot represent complex ASS styles, animation or karaoke. These losses are reported.

Can I convert SSA files to SRT too?

Yes, for SSA files with Events and Format structures supported by this parser.

Why are ASS hard and soft line breaks handled differently?

\N is a hard break. The soft break \n becomes a line break only in the matching wrap mode; otherwise it becomes a space. \h remains a non-breaking space.

What happens to drawings and Comment events?

Comments are ignored and drawings removed. Drawing-only and empty events are removed and counted.

Are bilingual lines and commas in dialogue preserved?

Yes. Bilingual lines are retained, and commas inside dialogue are not split into fields.

What if the text is garbled or the Format line is missing?

For files, select GBK or UTF-16 under advanced options. Pasted garbled text cannot recover the original bytes. A missing Format line blocks export; correct the source file.
