Frequently asked questions

Can I convert SRT to VTT by renaming the file?

No. VTT also needs a header, different timestamps and correctly escaped cue text.

Is the WEBVTT header added automatically?

Yes. The output includes the WEBVTT header and required blank line.

Why do timestamp commas change to decimal points?

VTT requires decimal points in timestamps. Commas in dialogue are unchanged.

Are multiline text, Chinese characters and basic formatting kept?

Multiline text, Chinese characters, bold, italic and underline are kept. Removed fonts or positioning are reported.

Can I convert SRT with missing or unordered cue numbers?

Recognisable cues are normalised. Unordered start times are stably sorted and reported; invalid timestamps still block export.

Can I use the VTT file in a web video player?

Use the output with a WebVTT-capable subtitle track, and check it in your target player. This site does not host video.
